RUBY WINE ran a blinder in the Lancashire Oaks to finish fourth beaten less than 2 lengths. She definitely stayed and a more strongly run race would have suited her better. The bold route for her to follow now would be the Yorkshire Oaks which she does hold an entry for. It would be another step up in class as this is a Group 1 race. Her participation in this will depend on where the other leading 3 year old fillies run. Her alternative at this stage is the Chalice Stakes at Newbury on July 30th, a Listed contest over 12 furlongs.
The firm ground everywhere has meant that most of this weeks runners could be on the all weather surface. RAFFISH runs at Wolverhampton tomorrow evening in a 14 furlong handicap. He is a winner on the polytrack surface so it should suit him. He seems in good form at home so would have a chance if he settles well and can handle the kickback which, for some reason, is far greater at Wolverhampton than Lingfield.
ROYAL WISH is entered at Folkestone on Thursday and Wolverhampton on Friday. She definitely does not want to run on firm ground so will run on the all weather if the ground remains firm at Folkestone. She was very green first time out at Leicester but has sharpened up a bit since then. The 6 furlongs at Wolverhampton may be a bit too sharp for her though.
HIGHLAND CASCADE is entered at Chester and Lingfield on Friday. Again if the ground remained firm she would run at Lingfield on the all weather. She was wrong after her last run at Haydock but has been working nicely at home recently. She too may need further than 6 furlongs.
On Saturday WELCOME STRANGER is stepping up in class again and will run in a Group 3 on the all weather at Lingfield. The form of his Windsor race is very good as the winner, Hazyview, ran a great race in the Eclipse, finishing fourth. He has won on the surface before so that will not be a problem. He is such a tough performer and this is his time of year so he should run very well. INNPURSUIT runs at the same meeting in a mile handicap. It is a bit of a gamble dropping him back in trip but he did run well over a mile at Leicester. He also ran well on the surface at the end of last year so he is not without a chance.
