RUBY WINE fulfilled the promise of her previous runs and battled on in fine style to win the Listed Ballymacoll Stud Stakes at Newbury last night. She started at the very generous odds of 20-1, but should never have been this price as she had previously beaten the strongly fancied Karlinya, who finished second to her yesterday. They had both contested the same maiden race at Newbury when the winner went on to win the Epsom Oaks and the second won the Cheshire Oaks, what a very strong maiden race that has proved to be. She has always looked a nice filly and is bred to get further than yesterday trip of 10 furlongs. She is definitely an improving sort and can hopefully progress further especially considering this was only her third run. Her long term target this season is the group 2 Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster in September.
It was particularly exciting for the owners, Mr and Mrs Wilson, as they also bred RUBY WINE. They will keep her to breed from when her racing days are over. It is so important to have got some black type to improve her pedigree and hopefully she is capable of gaining more success at this level.
