Park Lodge has a big week coming up. RUBY WINE will run at York in either the Yorkshire Oaks (Group 1) on Wednesday or The Galtres Stakes (Listed) on Thursday. The Galtres looks the most likely option unless the Yorkshire Oaks looks like cutting up to a small field. INQUISITRESS is due to run in a 7 furlong maiden fillies race at Newmarket on Friday. She ran very well on debut and seems a very nice filly in the making. She already had an entry in the Meon Valley Fillies Mile (Group 1) at Ascot later in September. Friday will tell us whether this is still a realistic target. It is days like these that are important in any yard but particularly so in a smaller yard likes ours. It is literally the reason that we are all, here at Park Lodge, involved in racing.
However that is not to forget our other runners. As ARIODANTE proved at Brighton last week, every horse can have a big day and every winner is important. CETSHWAYO runs at Yarmouth tomorrow evening. The gamble is the step up in trip to a mile and 6 furlongs. However he has always shaped like a stayer at home and the mile and a half race that he was in at Newmarket looked very hot. I therefore think that the gamble on the trip at Yarmouth was the more sensible option. I hope he will run very well as his owners have been very patient with a horse that has not always been easy to train. WESTER LODGE runs at Brighton on Tuesday. He ran a great race here last time and thoroughly deserves a victory. Micky Fenton rides again but we are swapping blinkers for visors.
I will keep you updated with how the fates treat us this week as we go along.
