ICE SLICE runs in a 7 furlong handicap at Ascot tomorrow and is drawn 15 of the 18 runners. There were no suitable options for him over a mile on a track he is proven on so we felt that a straight 7 furlongs on a stiff track could be ideal for him. We had the option of running in a mile handicap there today but that could have stretched his stamina too far. The handicapper has been fair to him all season apart from after his last run when he put him up a pound for finishing fourth. This is obviously making life increasingly tough for him but he does still appear to be in good form at home. We will keep going with him until he tells us otherwise. It is a bit of an experiment dropping him back in trip but if it does work then there is another race over this distance back at Ascot at the beginning of October. We would make that his last run of a very productive season for him. There is rain forecast before racing tomorrow which would be a help rather than a hindrance to him.
